EDMONTON (CP) — Stuart Olson Constructors Inc. announced Monday that it has awarded Lockerbie & Hole Inc. a $70-million cost reimbursable contract to be mechanical construction manager for the new remand centre in Edmonton.

Lockerbie also will decide the scope of work, which includes the installation of domestic water systems, storm and sanitary drainage systems, and underground utilities, Stuart Olson Constructors said in a release.

The jail is being built in the city’s northwest and will replace the 27-year-old existing remand centre located in downtown Edmonton.

The overall budget for the project is $620 million. When complete, the facility will house up to 2,000 inmates.

Last Thursday, Epcor awarded Lockerbie & Hole a $30-million contract to design and build the water and wastewater treatment plants for 3,500 residents and staff at Suncor’s Voyageur oilsands project in Fort McMurray, Alta.

When completed, the treatment plants will be owned and managed by Epcor to service the camp facilities and Voyageur Village for Suncor’s planned Voyageur expansion.
